Booked

My life is once again in transition, and definitely for the better, but I don't wish to enumerate all the many thoughts and ideas that have should have made their way here throughout the year. At least, not in one post.

A friend of mine feels the 30s encroaching, so we've decided to move full hilt on our latest story concept and turn it into a novel-length project. Wouldn't it be nice to be published? Without saying too much, I will say that it encompasses our love of philosophy and religion and damn fun characters. To summarize it here would make you think, "oh that sounds like so-and-so", so let me assure you that in our minds the final product is far different from the usual popularized literature.

Maybe I'll say more on it later, or offer an excerpt should it be appropriate.

On a similar note, I've been sitting on an idea for a couple months now that I will also be tackling for NaNoWriMo.org. National Novel Writing Month is an open contest that challenges would-be writers to simply 'be' writers, where participants must produce 50,000 words (roughly 175 pages) in the form of a novel.

I've done the math. It's going to take me at least 25 hours barring divine inspiration. Last year I was considering doing this and opted out, but as my friend indicated, the 30s are quickly approaching. Yes, I'll now be full time, but classes start up again in the Winter, so seize the day!

Or month. Whatever.

If you have that novel (or dozen novels) floating in your head, I encourage you to check out NaNoWriMo.org. I will endeavor to bring you updates as well. (Hi, mom.)

Excelsior!

Click

A small click accompanied the light, filling the room. The string attached to it swung back and forth lightly when he let go. He stepped forward, to the table in the middle, kicking up the particles that evidenced the long absence from this place.

Cough. Hack. "Whew!" He wiped the dust and cleared off the cobwebs around the tome. "What have we here? Ahh... I remember you."

Picking it up, he blew yet more dust that had settled between the pages, turning them and remembering them fondly. There were plenty of empty pages left. "I think it's time you were put to use again, my friend. I have so much to say."

He set it down and left the room once more, leaving the light on. He would be back soon enough.

A More Perfect Union

This speaks for itself. And no, it's not just the lofty ideals, it's the issues he raises and the stance he takes on enough issues that have decided it for me. 36min.

Erin go Bragh

Well, I worked until 11:30am, so I made as much of the night as possible. When I got to Magoo's everyone was already there, of course, and they'd already stopped serving the green beer. (Ah well.)

So I had a Killian's Irish Red, one of the better beers (most beer just tastes like shit). I danced the crap out of one song, and realized just how out of shape I am, and need to work on that! But it was a good song, and I danced like a demon. (Well, like no one was watching anyway.)

After an hour of hanging out and meeting some new people, I'm home and still sober and I've got myself one of those cheap plastic green hats (yeeeeaahhhh!). That beats the cover charge (boo).

It was fun. I was hoping to hang out with some of my new friends from work, but that was, sadly, a bust. Still, Gary, Miguel and Katie are always a pleasure to hang out with. (Respect.)

All in all, it could have been better, but it was still fun.

Silence is Golden

Don't mistake my silence for inactivity!

There are many things afoot these days. Between whispered epiphanies and glimmers of possibility, between the restless wordless nights and the frenzied unfathomable days, between a quest for satisfaction and a fear of reversion...

I have existed in that place, and continue to do so.

The snow melts. It threatens to return, but Spring will win out in the end.

My chest beats with purpose and the fire of inspiration... but my tongue remains still until I know where my feet stand (when they aren't lifting off the ground).

My heart screams poetry, but my mind warns caution.

Words demand release, but my feeble fingers cannot give them shape. My unpracticed lips cannot give them voice.

I must clean.

I must clear away.

I must recreate myself.

I am ready for it all...

...and scared to death.

They Might Be Giants

It was an interesting game. I enjoyed the second half far more, because the first half both teams weren't all that impressive. I was rooting for the Giants because they were the underdogs, though a part of me still wanted to see 'history made'.

But the more I think about it, a football season of undefeated wins is hardly history. Sure, it would have been impressive, and sure, the Patriots have an inspiring name on their side. But it wasn't like it was their lives were on the line. It's a game. It's not truly worthy of history. They might have been able to overwhelm the opponent, but they didn't.

Sorry, this is such a downer note, but I have a lot of things in my head that need to be said. I always tend to fall back on politics, and maybe I just can't let myself enjoy the simple pleasures of a football game and leave it at that. I need to defend my accusations of Bush, and it's going to take me a while to compile the laundry list of reasons, of which I think will have no bearing on ears that hear but will not listen. In the meantime, enjoy this food for thought:

Four Days Later

It has been a long, exhausting, work week. Also, spent all day in Chicago today but waaaay too tired to go into details right now. Long story short, I feel like I have experienced a few.... I'll call them 'nudges of providence' for now. Something involving Trek, possibly? We shall see. I'll have more details on the Chicago trip soon, hopefully tomorrow.

Good night, people. The phone's turning off and the alarm is being set; I'm working the store tomorrow.

Until then...
